Про книгу

Helmut Newton (1920–2004) has always demonstrated healthy contempt for the easy or predictable, so it is not surprising that SUMO was an irresistible project. The idea of a book the size of a private exhibition with impressive images, reproduced in accordance with modern standards of production and printing, arose as a result of an open experimental dialogue between the photographer and the publisher. SUMO overhang - boxed and shrink-wrapped - weighing 35.4 kg (a little less than 80 pounds), Newton created a historical book that was a cut above everything that had been previously undertaken, both in terms of conceptual wastefulness and technical characteristics.

Published in a print run of 10,000 signed and numbered copies, SUMO was sold out shortly after publication and quickly increased in value. Currently, he is represented in many collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The legendary number one copy, signed by more than 100 celebrity books, broke the record for the most expensive book published in the 20th century, sold at auction in Berlin on April 6, 2000 for 620,000 German marks - about 317,000 euros

Now, this XL edition marks the 20th anniversary of SUMO, the result of a project conceived by Helmut Newton several years ago. Revised by his wife in June, Tom collects 464 images and a new booklet that talks about the creation of this publishing company - an impressive tribute to the magnanimous Helmut Newton, now in a friendly format.
